今日は、「The Elusive Shadow」を訳してみました
Elusiveって、捉えどころのない・・と言う意味ですが、、
語源を調べると、
例えば・・悪戯な子供が、ふざけて、鬼ごっこ遊びをして逃げ回るような・・・
そんな感覚ではないかと感じました。
そう・・↓こんな子のように。。
マイケルが、探し求めた「魂」。。

僕の魂への扉は、ずっと半開きのままだった
致命的な恐怖の苦痛の中で
君の音楽は、僕には聞こえなかった
思い出の路地の曲がりくねった道を通り抜け
僕は痛みの中で自分の十字架を背負ってきた

It was a journey of madness
Of anguish born in sadness
I wandered high and low
Recoiled from every blow
Looking for that stolen nectar
In my heart that long-lost scepter
In all those haunted faces
I searched for my oasis
それは、悲しみから生まれた苦悩の
狂気の旅路だった
僕は、あらゆる逆風に晒された
高く、また、低い地を彷徨った
奪われた「甘露」、消息不明の「王笏」を
僕の心の中にさがし求めながら
それら幽霊の様に出没する顔の全てに
僕は自分のオアシスを探し求めていた
*nectar・・ギリシア神話におけるネクター。
神々が常食とする生命の酒・不老不死の霊薬である薬酒・滋養のある飲み物
*scepter・・王笏（おうしゃく）。君主が持つ象徴的かつ装飾的な杖。
ギリシャ神話では、王笏には鳥の装飾が先端に付いている。
In a way it was in a drunken craze

This shadow following me I could not shake
Many a time in the noisy crowd
In the hustle and bustle of the din so loud
I peered behind to see its trace
I could not lose it in any place
It was only when I broke all ties
After the stillness of the shrieking cries
ある意味では、それは酔った熱狂の
残酷な病的興奮、不鮮明な靄の中にいたということだった
何度も、僕は、振り払うことのできない、付き纏うこの影を打ち破ろうと試みた
何度も、声高の騒音の押し合いへし合いのを喧しい群衆の中に
通り過ぎたそれの足跡を見るために、僕は後ろを注意深く見たのだ
僕は、それを、どんな場所でも見逃さなかった
それは、金切声の叫びの静けさの後の
僕が全てから解き放たれた、その時のだけことだった

I suddenly stared in your fiery eyes
All at once I found my
The elusive shadow was my soul
それら、吐き出された溜め息達の底深くに
想えば千の悲しみが横たわる
僕は、不意に、君の炎のような瞳に、目を見張ったのだ
突然に、僕は自分の目的地を見出した
その巧みに姿をくらます捕えどころのない影は、僕の魂だったのだ
*elusiveの語源・・＝ex- "out, away" + ludere "to play"
つまり、「鬼ごっこ遊び」のようにふざけて逃げ、捕まえにくいというような意味でしょうか。
