Finca el origen(full bodied dry red)

Principal grape: malbec

Origin: uno Valley, Mendoza, Argentina

Price: $18

Malbec, one of the grapes used in red Bordeaux, is Argentina's signature grape and is increasingly making a name for itself among red wine lovers. Malbec is softer than merlot but has the sort of intensity you get from cabernet sauvignon. Finca El Origen's vineyards are located at the foot of the Andes more than 3,200 feet above sea level. Over a hundred million years ago, this area was under water, which explains the presence in the vineyards of fossilized sediments of such extinct marine animals as ammonites. The wine stands out for its ripe jammy flavors of blackberry and plum. Intensely purple in color, it has aromas of violets and tabacco. Rustic yet round and soft in the mouth, it is great paired with red meal dishes.
