3連休ですね。今年は祝日の並びが良いみたいです。
本日も裁判関連の表現を取り上げさせていただきます。
今回はinterrogatoryを取り上げます。
depositionのときにご紹介したAmerican Bar Associationのサイトに以下のように記載があります。
“Usually depositions consist of an oral examination, followed by cross-examination by the opposing side. In addition to taking depositions, either party may submit written questions, called interrogatories , to the other party and require that they be answered in writing under oath.”
ボールド+下線しましたが、interrogatory=written questionsを指し、ディスカバリー手続での「質問状」のようなものを指すようです。
よく海外のクライムサスペンス系のドラマで「尋問」をinterrogate/interrogationといいますよね。
これからも、調べるや問いただすようなものであることはなんとなくわかりそうです。
