Have you ever used a sleeper in England?
I went to Edinburgh for the first time in a sleeping car. It left King's Cross Station in London at 11 something at night.
As soon as you got into your compartment, it's already a bed time. So you don't have to worry too much about sharing a compartment with a stranger, since you have hardly any time to talk to the person.
The train left a big station very late at night and arrived in Edinburgh quite early in the morning.
During the night, while lying on a bed, I realized the train got slower from time to time. I guess they were killing time so that they could reach Edinburgh at a decent time in the morning. Since nobody wants to get there at four in the morning and kill time outside.
Anyway, when the train got very close to Edinburgh, a service attendant brought to each compartment hot tea and shortbread. It was February and still very cold, so that was a treat.
Everything seemed reasonably clean and safe, and thought it was my first trip to England and I was not so good at speaking English and did not understand spoken English well, but I enjoyed the experience.
Next time when you have a chance to make a slow trip to sightseeing cities in England, why don't you try a sleeper once?
