The gold finish is not solid gold, it is 24k gold plated brass. I think nearly all knobs and handles everywhere are gold plated, the price would be much more expensive for solid gold, also solid gold is a soft metal so it is not as hard and strong as brass metal. 

The base metal for all our products is solid brass. 

Just a few things for you to consider when looking for your knobs - I would not recommend a gold finish for a bathroom. Polished chrome is usually the strongest/hardest wearing for a bathroom. Gold finish products will wear and fade faster than any other finish in a wet/humid environment like a bathroom. Brass finish and Gold finish are very different finishes. Gold is a more orange than the brass finish. I would strongly recommend you see the finishes in a shop with your own eyes first before you decide which finish color you want. It is difficult to tell the color by looking at a photo on the computer, also the colors will look different on different monitors/screens. If you are shopping elsewhere make sure you get a solid brass knob too, some shops sell hollow brass knobs which are usually not very good quality (you can tell because it's light and not heavy).
