Today is an anniversary of Dr. Tsukada’s death.
Dr. Kazuhiro Tsukada was a former director of Toyama University Hospital.

When I was stuck in the dark both mentally and physically,
he helped me bring back energies to live my life.

He said to me with a warm smile,
“You make me feel that your disease will be cured someday.”

“We sometimes witness things that we cannot medically explain.
Patients show us those miracles.”

“Yes, you are doing a great job!”

He is the one who gave me hope by saying,
“You’ll be all right!
Let’s stay strong to see your kids grow up!”

I was fortunate to meet him in Tokyo.
But only two months later, he passed away.

When I first heard of his death, I couldn’t really accept it.
Why is he gone…while I am still alive?

Life is a full of unexpected events.
That is why we need to cherish each moment.

He used to say, “A chance could be a pinch”.

I think only surgeons (like himself) know its meaning.

But since I got this quote,
I’ve been telling myself that a pinch could be a chance and a chance could be a pinch.
These are in sets.

Everything is transformable in various ways.

This way of thinking makes me feel better.

So,
when in a pinch,
when in a chance,
I always picture Dr. Tsukada’s face.

Today, it’s a day that I send my gratitude for Dr. Tsukada
all the way up to the heaven.

I will keep my smiles all day today.

Thank you, Dr. Tsukada.
